Johnny be heading to grad school

The Zoltars say a very special goodbye to John Gaglio, bass player of almost 3 years. He is moving to Virginia for grad school, and we are very excited for him. He is such an incredible human being.

A special friend of the band will be replacing John on bass come late May, and we will start playing shows on a regular basis again.

New 7 inch out soon-ish + new shows

Hey everybody,

We have been very busy lately so we aren’t playing as many shows as we normally do. But fret not, we have some amazing shows coming up in February and March with some of our favorite bands in Texas (The Young, Grape Street, Fungi Girls, etc.). I added a few shows to the “upcoming shows” part of our website for you to check out.

We also have a 7 inch coming out in February or March on my friend (and new lead guitarist for The Zoltars) Justin’s label: CQ Records. There will be 3 songs recorded by Hans Zimmerman (of The Young). It’s kinda aggressive, and it doesn’t sound anything like our LP (or the upcoming LP that will follow it). They are 3 older zoltars songs that we decided to re-record as a 4-piece last February as an experiment. Hopefully this can be something to tide y’all over until the next LP.

Speaking of the next LP, I made a rough mix over the winter break just to go through takes (to see which takes to use) and get an idea of things, and I am very very excited. Many people might not like it, but I’m okay with that. It’s very different: the lyrics are not as creepy, but the songs are perhaps weirder and poppier at the same time. It is a more upbeat album than our previous one (it still has its dark moments though). Some might call it dreamy at times. It’s very non-minimalist, so old-school zoltars fans might be thrown for a loop, but give it a chance! Final studio mix should be ready in January or February, and we’re hoping to release it sometime this summer. There are 11 songs on the album.

happy new year!

Jared from The Zoltars
